Time perception-research paper (Psychology) By Tang Yee Lee Elizabeth Two theories- The Scalar Expectancy Theory (SET) and the Temporal Range Frequency Theory (TRFT) were used to predict two different results in a temporal bisection task with preceding clicks of either 10ms duration, 50ms duration or no-clicks (silence). SET predicts that the subjective duration of Probe at the 10ms condition would be judged longer than those in the silence condition, but the 10ms and the 50ms condition would not differ. On the other hand, the TRFT predicts that the Probe duration at the 50ms condition would be perceived as shorter than the 10ms condition but longer than the silence condition. Results shown that SET was supported, which can be explained by the arousal effect that speed up the internal clock of the participants.
