In terms of teaching, I believe that any willing student is capable of achieving good grades. I also believe that each individual is special in his/her own way, and that he/she therefore requires a tailored approach when it comes to learning.
The primary objective for me would be to make sure that the child is willing to learn, eager to learn, and sees the point of learning. The secondary objective would then be to assess the child's strengths and weaknesses, so as to tailor a program that would be the most helpful to him/her.
With the above two prerequisites in place, achieving good grades is almost natural.
