I am an independent school teacher who offers one-on-one tutoring in Writing, English language & literature, and Chinese language & literature to students and adults at all levels. With a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in English Literature and extensive postgraduate coursework in Chinese and Comparative Literature (currently working on my second M.A. in Chinese literature; degree expected in 2008), I consider myself a bilingual and bicultural teaching professional who is capable of teaching both English and Chinese courses effectively.
I've successfully taught English Language and Literature (including General Paper), Chinese (including Higher Chinese and Chinese Literature), and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses at various levels, mostly to secondary school and junior college students. Most of the courses I have taught aimed to help students become more perceptive and critical in their thinking, and acquire a general knowledge of societal affairs by taking a literary, cultural, historical, or comparative approach in their writing. I am experienced in using interdisciplinary and Socratic method in my teaching, as I aim to create an environment which challenges my students to be curious about their learning and excited about exploring new knowledge. As a native Chinese speaker, I am also experienced in teaching Beginning Mandarin Chinese to English-speaking expatriates who had zero foundation in the language. In less than a year's time, my expatriate students could engage in Chinese conversations, recognize more than two thousand Chinese characters and write simple essays.
As a tutor, I am punctual, dedicated and professional. You will find me a responsible tutor with tremendous passion for teaching. As long as my students are willing to learn, I am willing to teach them, guide them and motivate them with all my patience. My tuition students range from upper-primary school kids to working adults, from different nationalities and backgrounds. Many of them have excelled in their PSLE, O-Level and A-Level Exams, gained admission to local & overseas universities and continued to keep in touch with me.

Message: I am a Sec 2 student from St Patrick's School. I would say that Mrs Yeh's English tuition is one of the tuition that I miss. I always admire the fact that she is such a fair, encouraging, and intelligent teacher whom I can look up to. She would point out my strengths and weaknesses in writing, reading, reciting and public speaking and she would then help me to improve on these areas. She also gave me a lot of notes, and helped me with my school homework. Most important of all, she has always been very friendly, approachable and much more helpful compared to my school's teachers. I have learned a lot from her both academically and in life. I think I have learned more from her as compared to attending some mass tutorial class in a tuition centre in Bedok. Right now I don't have tuition with her because my English has improved this year (from C5 to B3) and my parents want me to concentrate on my science and math (I got only C6 and D7 for my e-math and chem!), but they have agreed that i can continue to have her English tuition again next year, in Sec 3, to prepare for O level. I can gladly write this recommendation for her because i miss her tuition, haha. i sure hope I can get A1 or A2 in Eng and Lit next year.

Message: 我在莱佛士初级学院(RJC)读书时简老师当了我一年的华文补习老师, 我们一个礼拜上课两次, 一次两个小时. 老师不但教了我很多写作技巧, 也批改我的作文, 引导我读了很多当代的文学作品. 老师本身其实是教英文的, 因此她对西方文学理论很感兴趣, 在文艺理论学方面的知识扎实. 补习的时候我很喜欢跟老师讨论小说里要传达的讯息. 老师华文很好, 思考问题的范围很广阔，从不局限在一个狭小的圈子里, 所以跟她谈天很有意思. 现在我在新加坡国立大学(NUS)读中文系, 希望毕业后能进入教育学院(NIE), 也当一名华文老师.
